Training for Existing Net Control Operators
Periodic NCO Re-Certification
Net Control Operator training is valid for a maximum of three years. Beyond the initial training, the re-certification requirements are as follows:
- Re-Certification is required annually (first quarter of each year) unless minimum participation requirements are met. Currently, one report logged per calendar year will exempt a team member from annual re-certification.
- Re-Certification is required once every three years regardless of activity level.
- Annual re-certification may be required regardless of activity level in the event of individual performance concerns, at the discretion of the SKYWARN Area Manager.
Team Members should refer to the Team Roster in Ops Portal for their current status (ACTIVE, INACTIVE, or RESERVE). ACTIVE team members only need to re-certify once every three years, unless there are specific performance concerns. INACTIVE and RESERVE team members will re-certify annually, unless at least one report has been logged during a net over the previous rolling 1-year period, and in all cases must re-certify a minimum of once every three years.
Additionally, all team members are required to maintain valid Spotter training for the duration of their participation with our team. See Spotter Training Requirements for NCO's for more information.
Re-Certification Process
Currently, the re-certification process is the same as the New Net Control Operator Training process. All materials must be reviewed and the classroom session or webinar must be attended in order to re-certify.
Contact your Area Manager for all re-certification training questions.
