Mission Statement
"To provide reliable and prompt delivery of vital ground truth from SKYWARN® storm spotters to the National Weather Service, in accordance with its severe criteria and in support of its mission to protect lives and property during severe weather. To generate an interest in—and understanding of—weather phenomena; and to promote NWS SKYWARN® training and participation within an all-inclusive environment. To ensure that amateur radio plays a vital and strategic role within the SKYWARN® program."
Core Values
Our Core Values are D.I.R.E.C.T to our Mission Statement and Community Involvement, that is:
We serve the National Weather Service and each other with a spirit of commitment and dedication to our common mission to protect life and property.
We act honestly and in the best interest of SKYWARN® in everything we do.
We recognize the duties each person on the team has volunteered to perform and we appreciate their hard work, even when things go wrong.
We value each others' interests, skills, and experiences and we actively and publicly share our talents and our knowledge.
We aim to do a lot of things right and want to be the best, but in order to truly be the best we need to accept that sometimes we'll fail, and that's okay as long as we learn something from it and make ourselves stronger.
No one person can carry the weight of the SKYWARN® program. It takes many people working together with diverse skills and a common goal to achieve success.
We share our educational resources and our intellectual assets freely with the communities we serve and strive to be good neighbors and partners in the amateur radio world.
Inclusion and Non-Discrimination Policy
The Colorado Severe Weather Network SKYWARN® Trained Amateur Radio Support Team has flourished by embracing the unique background and abilities of every team member. Each individual brings a distinct skill set to the team and we must maintain an environment of inclusion and non-discrimination for all volunteers. We welcome all participants who, with training and reasonable accommodation, can perform the basic functions required of a team member in their position, and we will seek out modified or alternative roles for other members where possible.
We do not tolerate abusive or discriminatory behavior based in whole or in part, on the person's race, color, national origin, age, religion, disability status, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran/military status, genetic information, or marital status. While our resources are limited, we make every effort to extend reasonable accommodations to volunteers who may have special requirements during the training process and in the routine performance of SKYWARN® functions. These accommodations may include facility access considerations; transportation, seating, or dietary arrangements; accessibility devices; and modification of operating procedures as needed.
Requests for accommodation or concerns over potential violations of this policy may be directed to the appropriate member of the Leadership Team.
